Welcome to CONVERNET!
CONVERNET is a European network of public stakeholders, private companies and the interested public dedicated to the civil re-use of former military sites. We have joined to promote conversion as policy field, to exchange knowledge about organisational and technical solutions, to develop project ideas and to acquire international funds for realising these ideas.
Started in 2003 as an INTERREG III B project 21 partners from the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea lead by the Brandenburg State Ministry of Economics, have collated and analysed their conversion experiences. They have produced two main publications: "The Conversion Handbook for the Baltic Sea Region", which contains case studies and conversion instruments from the countries of the CONVERNET partners, defines good and best practice, lists conclusions and recommendations, and also contains a service section with useful contact addresses and "The Regional Action Plan for Conversion in the Baltic Sea Region" that defines fields of activity based on national studies, sets out guidelines and provides recommendations for their implementation. Both as well as other results of this networking phase can be obtained under the menu item "Results".
Although funding ceased in July 2006, partners agreed to continue co-operation. As one concrete step, the project co-ordinator, INFRASTRUKTUR & UMWELT and two Senior Experts, Roland Vogt (Germany) and Juhani Ahlman (Finland) offered to further develop the CONVERNET homepage into an interactive European platform for conversion.
We invite you to contribute to the project ideas presented within the "forum", to propose activities and to tell us your specific interests. Keep yourself informed about what is going on by checking the "news".
Further information on how the platform works you will get by just clicking the items of the menu bar. Just try it!
