Fort Gorgast e.V. was founded in 1999 aiming at civil re-use of the fort Gorgast.
The fortress not far from the German-Polish border dates to the end of the 19th century, when a ring of forts was built round Küstrin. After 1945 the fort was used by the People’s National Army of the GDR as an ammunition deposit. Since 1997 the fort has been listed as a monument. The association wants to establish tourism, culture, art and other creative activities within the Fort Gorgast.
